The 130,000-square-foot Power Center is a fitness, recreation and retail facility for the students and faculty of Duquesne University as well as the surrounding community.

Duquesne University is a private, Catholic university established in 1878. It is named in honor of Michel-Ange Duquesne de Menneville (1700-1778), who was the governor general of France’s colonies in North America. He built the first fort at the point where the Ohio River forms and where Pittsburgh began.

Power’s fitness facilities are open only to students, faculty, staff and administrators currently enrolled or employed at Duquesne University. However, the retail component (which includes a Barnes & Noble book store) welcomes the general public. The university sometimes hosts public events at Power.

The center is named in honor of William Patrick Power (1843-1919), the first president of Duquesne University.
