The Rachel Carson Homestead is a museum and education center located northeast of Pittsburgh in the small town of Springdale.
It has been created around the five-room farmhouse that was the childhood home of Rachel Carson (1907-1964), a marine biologist and conservationist whose book Silent Spring is credited with launching the environmental movement.
The museum is operated by the nonprofit Rachel Carson Homestead Association which strives to use the center to promote Carson’s belief that humans should be wise custodians of Earth by considering the implications of peoples’ actions on the global web of life.
