The Shadyside Presbyterian Church is a traditional and winsome community of faith with a diverse and vibrant membership.

Presbyterian is a branch of Protestant Christianity rooted in the concept developed by French theologian John Calvin (1509-1564) who argued that the sum of human wisdom consists of two parts: the knowledge of God and of us. Continuous study of the scriptures, theological writings and church doctrine are encouraged in Presbyterianism.

The congregation dates to the 1860’s when the city neighborhood Shadyside (named after a farm) was still developing. The church building was completed in 1890. It is considered an excellent example Richardsonian Romanesque — a style pioneered by American architect Henry Hobson Richardson (1838-1886) that incorporates characteristics featured in 12th century European structures.
