The South Side Presbyterian Church is the oldest active church in the South Side neighborhood. It is also the eighth oldest Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in Pittsburgh.

Presbyterian is a branch of Protestant Christianity rooted in the concept developed by French theologian John Calvin (1509-1564) who argued that the sum of human wisdom consists of two parts: the knowledge of God and of us. Continuous study of the scriptures, theological writings and church doctrine are encouraged in Presbyterianism.

This congregation was begun in 1851, and the church was completed in 1869. Further additions enlarged the facility and included a handsome tower.
