Inspired by the legend of Johnny Appleseed, Threadbare is a restaurant and tasting house that specializes in crafting its own cider.

The legend of Johnny Appleseed is rooted in the real-life story of pioneer John Chapman (1774-1845), who introduced apple trees to large parts of Pennsylvania, Ontario, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. He became an American legend due to his kind, generous ways and his leadership in conservation. Some historians believe that Chapman may have lived in Pittsburgh for a period in 1794.

Cider is an alcoholic beverage of ancient origin made from fermented apple juice (although non-alcohol “soft” cider can also be created). Cider alcohol content varies from 1.2% to 8.5% alcohol-by-volume (ABV) or more in traditional English ciders, and 3.5% to 12% in continental European ciders.

Threadbare offers a full dinner menu, a wide selection of craft cider and various events ranging from tours to live music.
