Scheduled for Mother’s Day, this 2024 documentary film explores the life and work of pioneering artist Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1986; pictured).
O’Keeffe exploded on the New York art scene in the 1920s with her paintings of flowers, bones and the beauty of nature. Nude photographs of O’Keeffe taken by her lover — fellow artist Alfred Stieglitz (1884-1946) — shocked the public and contributed to the perception that her paintings were sexually charged. In the 1970s, O’Keeffe, famously isolated in the New Mexico desert, emerged as an iconic role model for second wave feminists.
This spellbinding film offers an in-depth, cinematic, and fresh portrait of the artist known as the “Mother of Modernism.”
A second screening is scheduled for 2:30pm.
