Hailing from the Ukrainian industrial city of Donetsk, the musical oddity Jinjer incorporates elements of death metal, progressive rock and nu metal into their distinctive sound. The result is music of surprising depth that showcases lead singer Tatiana Shmailyuk’s amazing vocal range.
The oddest aspect to Jinjer is the band’s origin — in a city founded in Imperial Russia by a Welsh businessman for his steel mill. Today, Donetsk is the unofficial capital and largest city of the larger economic and cultural Donets Basin region.
