Ukrainian American pianist Stefan Jackiw (pictured) joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a program that features the romantic “Scheherazade.”
Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).
The 1888 symphonic suite “Scheherazade” was written by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908). The dazzling and colorful work was inspired by the classic Middle Eastern stories collectively known as One Thousand and One Nights.
