In lieu of an actual city hall, Pittsburgh’s major city government offices share this unique building with Allegheny County’s major government offices.

The City-County Building was designed by noted architect Henry Hornbostel (1867-1961), who designed many iconic structures in New York City and Pittsburgh, including 22 on the National Register of Historic Places.

Open in 1917, the building is an impressive piece of architecture. A key element is the main hall, which is surrounded by gilded classical columns 47 feet high, supporting a vaulted ceiling of terra cotta tile.

First-time visitors will notice a statute of Richard S. Caliguiri (1931-1988), who was the city’s mayor from 1977 until is death.

STANDARD OPERATING HOURS:
Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
