The Mr. Roboto Project is a cooperatively-run performance venue and art gallery located in a first-floor former retail space Their aim is to create a comfortable and open safe space for people to experience a true DIY (do-it-yourself) community.
Their name was inspired by the 1983 song “Mr. Roboto” written for and performed by the legendary rock band Styx. In the song, Roboto is a model of robot which does menial jobs in a prison.
Roboto identifies as a “safer space,” meaning racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any other types of oppressive language are considered inappropriate and are not tolerated. Roboto is meant to be a safe, respectful, welcoming space for everyone.
