The Bloomfield Bridge Tavern has become a signature gathering place and concert venue in the city’s historic Bloomfield neighborhood since opening in 1985.
Bloomfield is located just three miles east of Downtown Pittsburgh. The neighborhood was its own municipality until the city annexed it in 1868 during a period when German immigrants set down roots. Around 1900, Bloomfield’s character began taking shape with the arrival of working class families and individuals from five towns in the Italian region of Abruzzi. Although other immigrants — including Poles — settled in these few blocks, the neighborhood is known as the city’s Little Italy.
The tavern is named in honor of one of the neighborhood’s icons: the four-lane Bloomfield Bridge, which spans a ravine between two other neighborhoods. The original bridge was constructed in 1914 and demolished in 1980. The current girder bridge is located at the same place and opened in 1986.
The Bloomfield Bridge Tavern’s decor reflects the blue collar history as does its menu of award winning Polish food and regularly booking local rock bands.
