The Cities of Asylum is an international network of organizations committed to protecting and promoting freedom of speech and publication including the physical safety of writers.
Pittsburgh joined this network in 2004 with a specific mission: to provide sanctuary to literary writers who were exiled and under threat of persecution.
City of Asylum/Pittsburgh holds events in a section of a former fraternal organization now often referred to as Alphabet City.
