Schenley Plaza is an extension of and grand entrance to Schenley Park, one of Pittsburgh’s largest and most popular urban oases.
The 300-acre park was created in 1889 thanks to a gift by local heiress and philanthropist Mary Schenley (1826-1903). Today it has 13 tennis courts, an all-weather running track, a soccer field, ice skating rink, public swimming pool and an 18-hole disc golf course.
Schenley Plaza is a 4.5-acre space located in the city’s vibrant Oakland neighborhood adjacent to the Carnegie Library & Museums. Visitors enjoy ornamental gardens, benches, food kiosks and especially a Victorian-style carousel.
The plaza is an initiative of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservatory, a non-profit organization dedicated to renovating and improving the city’s parks.
