Founded in 1794, the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary is a graduate theological school of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), offering master’s and Doctor of Ministry degrees as well as certificate programs.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is large, progressive Protestant Christian denomination created in 1983 through the merger of two denominations whose history dates to the 1860’s.

However, the student body is also comprised of Baptists, Methodists, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Orthodox, Independents and a variety of other denominations from across the country and around the world.

PTS’ spiritual heart is the Hicks Memorial Chapel. The large Georgian edifice includes a noble spire surmounted by a golden weathercock (recently refurbished), a traditional symbol warning against denial of the Lord. The building also contains a large, theater-like auditorium and offices.

Other facilities include the Kelso Museum of Near Eastern Archaeology (with relics from modern-day Israel, Jordan and the West Bank) and the Clifford E. Barbour Library (which has an extensive collection of theological resources).
